As the capital of Minnesota, St. Paul is home to some of the best tourist sites. And luckily, many of them are free to visit. For example, visitors can head over to the Gallery of Wood Art. The museum, which is run by the American Association of Woodturners, is home to a variety of beautiful wood pieces. Past exhibits have included The Teapot and A Gathering of Spoons, where these ordinary household items were transformed into unique collections (such as a teapot carved with leaf-work). Yet the museum’s latest exhibit, Maple Medley- an Acer Showcase, is just as fascinating. Running from September 12th until December 19th, the collection will be made from Maple trees and might even replicate parts of the tree, too.Speaking of trees, plant and animal lovers will love the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. Here, tourists can find lions, tigers, bears, and everything in between: such as flamingos, gorillas, giraffes and penguins. As far as plant life goes, botanical lovers can admire bonsais and orchids, or walk around some of the Conservatory’s many gardens. If you are searching for a historical and majestic landmark, however, look no further than the Cathedral of Saint Paul. The church dates back to 1907, and since then, the incredible exterior and interior design has left visitors in awe. This Beaux Arts Cathedral is 306 feet high, with a copper dome and lantern contributing to its architectural splendor. Inside, visitors will find beautiful stained glass windows and marble alters, as well as religious mosaics and scroll work on the ceilings. No matter what your interests are, St. Paul has something for your pastime and budget. For hours on any of the above locations, or for information on donating, visit the official websites.
