The Festival of Nations
Since 1932, Minnesota’s capital (Saint Paul) has hosted the Festival of Nations. The festival is credited to the International Institute of Minnesota, who started the event as a celebration of all the different nationalities present in America. At the event, visitors can enjoy entertainment, cuisine, art, crafts, and much more from all over the world. One of the most fascinating parts of the festival is the demonstrations. At the 2010 event, there were 34 different demonstrations: such as Chinese calligraphy, international flag weaving, Japanese origami and ribbon fish, as well as Italian Bocce Ball. Yet, the event’s succes has led to the addition of new demonstrations. This year, guests were also watched Irish harp making, Mexican folk crafts, Scandinavian rugweaving, and Somali finger weaving.Visitors can also enjoy live, international music, as well as cultural exhibits. At the past festival, the theme of the event was “Folklore, Legends and Heroes.” And each nation, including Greece, Poland, China, France and many more, presented exhibits to this cultural theme. As far as entertainment goes, there are different recitals every thirty minutes. Better yet, there are two different stages where the acts perform. So if you miss a cultural recital first time around, you still have a chance to catch their second performance.
